‘Weird novelist’ Lee Oi-soo dies after leaving his wife Oh Yeol

Novelist Lee Oe-soo passed away amidst the cry of his family.

The funeral of novelist Lee Oe-su, who passed away on the 25th, was held in the morning of the 29th at the Hoban funeral home in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, amid the condolences of the bereaved family and people in the culture and art world.

According to Yonhap News, at the ceremony held at 8 am in the rain that day, his wife Jeon Young-ja and his sons Han-Eol and Jin-Eol, as well as those who had a relationship with the writer during his lifetime, saw the deceased off together. Mrs. Jeon, who was wiping the raindrops on her portrait, cried and said her goodbyes to her husband.

The remains of the deceased are placed in an ashes after cremation at 11 am on the same day, and then we tour the Hwacheon Emotional Village, where he was active in writing while he was still alive. It will be enshrined at the Bonandang in the Chuncheon Ansikwon at around 2 PM.

The deceased recovered after undergoing surgery for stage 2 stomach cancer in 2014, but suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in March of the previous year and collapsed suddenly and has been working hard on rehabilitation until recently. He died on the 25th of last March after suffering from pneumonia as a result of Corona 19 (novel coronavirus infection) and being hospitalized in the intensive care unit. His cause of death was reported to be multiple organ failure due to pneumonia.

As it was Lee Oe-su, who had made connections with people from various fields during his lifetime, commemorations from all walks of life continued. A wave of condolences from the entertainment and cultural circles followed, including actor Kim Gyu-ri, singer and broadcaster Bae Cheol-soo, former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon, and poet Ryu Geun. Profiler Pyo Chang-won wrote, “I pray for the well-being of the deceased. I am sorry and regretful that I did not ask for greetings after visiting Gamseong Village in 2016. Since he was a god, I believe that he passed away well. Thank you.”

Democratic Party lawmaker Ko Min-jung wrote, “I sincerely hope that you will always be happy in the sky like this smiling image on a dazzling sunny day.”

Born in Hamyang, Gyeongsangnam-do in 1946, the deceased published the short story ‘Apprentice Children’ in the Gangwon Ilbo New Year’s Literature in 1972.

Since then, he has published novels such as ‘Wild Dog’, ‘Knife’, ‘Longevity Sky Cattle’, ‘Byeokgeumhakdo’, etc., as well as poetry collections ‘Flower Flower Cup Butterfly’, ‘Longing also becomes a fossil’, and essays ‘It’s Raining in My Sleep’, ‘Hands Down’, ‘Invincible Youth’. He continued his vigorous writing.

During his lifetime, the deceased made headlines with his travels and eccentricities. He has been active in various fields in the cultural world and has actively expressed opinions on social and political issues as the ‘Twitter President’ with over 1.7 million followers.
