Thrissur: The family of a young man who committed suicide due to non-availability of loan for his sister’s marriage. Vipin (25), son of late Vasu of Gandhinagar Kunduvara Pachalappoot, committed suicide inside his house yesterday. The sister’s wedding was scheduled to take place on Sunday. The Majlis Charitable Trust, which announced Rs 3 lakh for marriage assistance, handed over a check of Rs 1.5 lakh at the house yesterday. Malabar Gold 3 sovereign gold and Chempukkavu Sacred Heart Parish has offered Rs 25,000. Vip died on Monday afternoon.

Vipin had taken his mother Baby to Puthenpalli to pick up the gold on the assurance of getting a loan and had told the two relatives to come there over the phone. She and the baby waited for a while and then returned without going to the jewelry store. When he reached home, he was found dead. In the morning, VP, Vidya, fianc Nidhi and friends went to the concert to shoot ‘Save the Date’.

Then at 8.30 Nidhin went home to Kaypamangalam. Vipin had told Nidhi that he was going somewhere to get a loan. Nidhi and Vidya were already acquainted. Nidhin said no dowry or gold was demanded. Nidhi, who returned home from abroad last April, was scheduled to move back to Sharjah in January as he got a new job.

The couple decided to get married before leaving because it was a two-year visa. Relatives are also unclear where Vipin last applied for the loan. After the postmortem at the District General Hospital, the body was buried at the Kozhukulli Memorial Cemetery.

Obstacles to credit: Lack of land

Thrissur: Major banks are denying loans to VIPs due to lack of land. Vipin had told friends that the new generation of banks had refused loans. The VIP’s run-down house is less than 3 cents. Banks are generally reluctant to lend on such a small scale.

It is also not clear why the financial institution that finally secured the Vipin loan refused the loan. No suicide note was found. Vip’s father Vasu was a carpenter. He died of a heart attack 5 years ago. Vipin is an automobile technician in a private car showroom in Marathakkara and has previously worked as a salesman in a supermarket.

Mother Baby was an Anganwadi worker. His sister Vidya is an employee in the cash department at Thrissur Service Medicals. Majlis Trust Chairman CA Saleem and General Secretary MM Abdul Jabbar visited the house and handed over the first installment check of Rs 3 lakh.
