BERKELEY SPRINGS, W. Va. – Issues the STD Surveillance Report on the state of study ranking nationwide in various categories of STD – West Virginia is the lowest population of people living with STD.
Between degrees of crlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, Virginia is steady in the lowest stages and Maryland is almost in the top 10.
West Virginia is classified as the safest state and only 365,000 people are living with an STD virus. To give us the inner scope, Morgan County Health Department estimates that people are caring for their safe state.
"I think education is our most powerful tool in public health and many other entities," said Berkeley and Morgan County Nurse Director, Angela Gray. "However, when we see clients, we provide a lot of education for them. It should be surprising how many people who do not know that infections are transmitted sexually infections are infected. So we will give that education at a time and it is likely that it will help reduce the risk. "
On the other hand, there was a total of Maryland across the categories, filling out at # 11 for individuals living with syphilis. Rod Macrae, Department of Health Information Officer, Washington County, believes that Maryland's problem may be due to lack of education.
"It's an education issue, it's a matter of people's awareness," said Macrae. "I think it's important that people stay informed, and protect themselves as best as possible. But, beyond that, it's a social problem."
It seems that the best advice piece is to have an unprotected sex and to know if your partner has a STD.
"We are educating about refrain, but then we learn ways to protect yourself," said Gray. "So you know condoms, even if you have birth control methods rather than condoms, it does not protect you from STD.
Pennsylvania and Virginia ranked central as # 39 and # 25 stages. Increasing the purpose of preventing any state, paired education appears to prevent the key.
