South Korea’s Korea Times news website reports on the situation of the COVID-19 epidemic. The country is at a critical point. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said today (Nov 24) that 4,116 new infections in 24 hours were the highest since the outbreak in South Korea. Resulting in the cumulative number of patients at 425,065.

The number of critically ill patients also hit a record high of 586, with 35 more deaths, the highest number since the fourth wave of the outbreak in July.

As a result, the cumulative death toll stood at 3,363, with a mortality rate of 0.79%, while 42.32 million people, or 82.4% of the country’s population, had received at least one dose of vaccine, of which 40.63 million. People, or 79.1 percent, received the full dose of the vaccine.

Prime Minister Kim Bu-kyom called on health authorities to increase quarantine measures. It said the country was facing the first obstacle to returning to normalcy and living with COVID-19.

The number of daily infections in South Korea has begun to rise after the government eased restrictions on Nov. 1 to gradual return to pre-pandemic life under its coexistence strategy with COVID-19.
