Why is the low voter turnout?

◀ anchor ▶

Let’s talk a little more about the results of this election with Kim Min-chan, a reporter from the political team.

Reporter Kim. First, let’s talk about turnout.

50.9% nationwide.. It is the second lowest among local elections in history, how should we view it?

◀ reporter ▶

Yes. That’s an unexpected turnout.

It was predicted that the advance voter turnout could exceed 60%, but it was not.

There are many reasons for the low turnout.

First of all, there is an analysis that voters are tired of the election being held again less than three months after the election.

It means that supporters of the ruling party or the opposition parties did not go to the polls as often as they did during the presidential election.

However, there are also analyzes that the voter turnout of Democratic supporters seems to be relatively low.

For example, Gwangju’s voter turnout is 37.7%.

In the course of the election, the Democratic Party experienced a controversy over sexual abuse and redemption rather than showing reflection or alternatives.

One of the peculiarities of this election is that the votes of men and women in their twenties, the so-called opposite men and women, were more divided.

◀ reporter ▶

We analyzed votes by gender and age through an exit survey.

More than 65% of men in their 20s and younger said they supported the People’s Power candidate.

On the other hand, more than 66% of women in their 20s and younger voted for the Democratic nominee.

In the presidential election in March, the votes of Lee Dae-nam and Lee Dae-deo were sharply divided, but this time it is even bigger than that time.

In particular, in the Seoul mayoral election, it was clear that more than 7 out of 10 Lee Dae-nam said they supported the people’s power.

These results came out even though there was no special policy for men and women to oppose in this local election.

There are concerns that the politics of splitting Lee Dae-nam Lee Dae-nyeo, which started with the controversy over the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, is becoming more and more entrenched.

It remains a problem for politicians to solve.

I don’t think it’s possible not to talk about the Justice Party.

After the last election, the results were also poor this time.

◀ reporter ▶

Literally, the situation is dire.

This time, the Justice Party nominated seven regional leaders, including Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province.

Including the Basic Assembly, 191 people cast their votes.

However, the grades are poor.

Even compared to four years ago, the number of local council seats, which used to be 37 seats, has now been reduced to nine.

Even in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, proportional representatives could not produce a single local legislator.

This is because the party’s voter turnout rate was only 4% in Seoul and 3% in Gyeonggi.

Compared to 2018, where it recorded around 10%, it has shrunk by half.

Even in Gwangju.

The power of the people was over 14%, but only 9% of the Justice Party.

As a result, the Justice Party immediately switched to a non-captain system as the leadership resigned.

Representative Yeo Young-guk said, “I will go back to the beginning and start over from the bottom. I am very sorry to the people and party members.”

In this election, Gyeonggi-do was the most difficult one, but there was a difference between the terrestrial exit poll and the actual counting result.. How should we view it?

◀ reporter ▶

The exit poll predicted that candidate Kim Eun-hye outpaced candidate Kim Dong-yeon by 0.6 percentage points.

However, the margin of error was plus or minus 1.6%P.

Considering the margin of error, it cannot be said that Kim Eun-hye is ahead.

There will be competition within the margin of error. That’s what it means.

Rather, the actual difference between the two candidates was within the margin of error.

Looking at it this way, ‘the exit survey of the Gyeonggi area is wrong’.

I can’t say this.

Also, except for the game, all other regions were hit.

The accuracy and reliability of the exit polls appear to be unquestioned.
