Williams F1 representative denies the illegality of Mercedes F1 engine[F1-Gate .com]

Williams F1 team leader Jost Capito has denied reports that Mercedes’ latest F1 engine provided a controversial power boost in a fierce title battle with Red Bull Honda.

In recent races, the Red Bull F1 camp, which is straight and significantly different from Mercedes, has questioned the legality of the improvements that Mercedes makes to F1 engine intercoolers.

But Mercedes F1 engine customer Williams’ Jost Capito doubts that.

“According to regulations, Mercedes must supply the same engine to all teams,” Jost Capito told RTL.

“We are very happy with the Mercedes engine. There is no doubt about it. It’s a very good engine, if not the best in F1.”

Jost Capito believes that rumors of illegality are nothing more than a psychological warfare in a fierce championship battle.

“I think this is always more exaggerated than it really is,” Jost Capito argues.

“But that’s even more gratifying in this kind of battle, and I think all fans are glad to be like that when there’s a close fight over the title.”
