Wimbledon; Wimbledon’s oldest tennis tournament, played on outdoor grass courts

London: The 135th Wimbledon Tennis Championships kicks off on Monday at the All England Club Stadium. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam on the Pulcourt. It will end on July 10. It is also the centenary of the center court at the All England Club. Novak Djokovic is the top seed in the men’s category and Iga Sviat is in the women’s category. Russia and Belarus players will not be allowed in this season. This is in protest of Russia’s occupation of Ukraine.

It is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. It was started in 1877. The first winner was Spencer Gore, an English tennis player and first-class county cricketer. Women’s singles were introduced in 1884. Maud Watson won the first title. The current winners are Novak Djokovic and Ashley Barty. Barty recently unexpectedly retired from tennis.

Martina Navratilova (9) and Roger Federer (8) have won the most Wimbledon titles for women and men respectively.
