Windows 11 finally lets users change default browsers with one click | iThome

Microsoft released the latest cumulative update for Windows 11 this week, allowing users to change the default Microsoft Edge to the desired browser with one click.

Microsoft tested the feature through a technical preview in December and is now officially rolling out to all users. In August last year, some users and the media discovered that Windows 11 had made a rather cunning change. It cancels the ability to select Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Brave or Microsoft’s own Edge as the default browser with one click in Windows 10, so that if users fail to start a browser such as Firefox or Chrome for the first time, press Under “Always use this browser”, its default browser will be set to Edge. To modify it in the browser settings, change to the desired browser one by one according to the connection type or file format, such as HTML, PDF, SVG, SHTML, WEBP, XHT, XHTML, FTP, HTTP and HTTPS.

The feature was added back in a tech preview in December last year, which Microsoft said was a “modification based on user input.”

In the KB5011563 cumulative update released this week, there is a new button “Set Default” under “Settings” > “Default App”, allowing users to change the default browser from Edge to Chrome, Firefox, Brave and others.

The new version of the update also fixes some unstable or buggy features, and adds the ability to display 3 priority notifications at the same time, making it easier for users to see apps that send calls, reminders or warnings.
