Wireless charging electric bus ‘Olev’ started in Daejeon

The wireless charging electric bus, one of the leading projects for re-creation of the Daedeok Innopolis, was promoted as part of the ‘Daedeok Science and Culture Street Creation Project’ jointly supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Daejeon City. The wireless charging technology applied to OLEV is a self-resonant method developed by KAIST, which attaches a wireless charging device (receiver) to an electric bus, embeds a wireless charger (transmitter) in the lower part of the bus stop, and utilizes the 85kHz band frequency for bus It is a wireless charging service before and after entering a bus stop and when stopping.

By using the original technology (magnetic resonance imaging technology) that can safely transmit large-capacity electric energy wirelessly, the electric bus can be charged while driving or stopping.

In September last year, during the ICT regulation sandbox deliberation, a special demonstration was granted to demonstrate the electric bus wireless charging service at two bus stops in KAIST among the circular electric bus routes in the Daedeok R&D Special District.

Unlike the wired charging method, it is possible to charge multiple units one by one without installing a separate charging facility or additional connecting parts (connectors). .

The wireless charging electric bus operated this time can be charged with 150 kw in one hour and can run 150 km, but on the Daedeok Special District circulation route, it will charge 50 kw for 20 minutes, which is the bus driver’s break time, and run 23.5 km.
