Singapore, which has been strongly promoting ‘with Corona’, has recorded the highest number of new coronavirus infections (COVID-19) in the history of 5,000.

Local media including the Daily Straits Times, citing the Ministry of Health’s announcement on the 28th, announced that there were 5,324 new cases of Corona 19 the day before, and the cumulative number of confirmed cases increased to 184,419.

This is the first time Singapore has reported more than 5,000 confirmed cases in a day. Previously, the number of new confirmed cases had never exceeded 4,000. In particular, compared to the 3,277 confirmed cases on the 26th the day before, the number increased by more than 2,000 in one day.

The Ministry of Health said, “The number of confirmed cases is abnormally high,” and is looking into the cause of the ‘abnormal surge.’

In addition to the new confirmed cases, 10 people in their 50s and 90s have died from COVID-19. All but one of them were not vaccinated, the health ministry explained.

The Singapore government has already adopted ‘with Corona’ for a gradual recovery of daily life from July. It was based on the judgment that if they receive the vaccine, they will be mild or asymptomatic even if they are infected with COVID-19.

Starting on the 19th, non-quarantine entry was also implemented for those vaccinated against COVID-19 from eight countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Singapore, with a population of 5.45 million, has a vaccination completion rate of 84%, the highest in the world.

As of the 27th, for the previous 28 days, there were 90,203 confirmed cases, an average of 3221 cases per day. Of the 90,203 confirmed cases during this period, 98.7% (89,030) were asymptomatic or mild.

0.9% (778 patients) of patients receiving ventilator treatment in the general ward and 0.1% (116 patients, 99 patients) receiving monitoring and intensive care in the intensive care unit were counted, respectively, and the death rate was 0.2% (180 patients). .

However, the Singaporean government has recently tightened the reins of quarantine as the number of confirmed cases steadily surpassed 3,000.

Initially, from the end of last month to the middle of this month, the authorities temporarily changed the number of people allowed to eat and gather in the restaurant from 5 to 2 again. However, as the number of confirmed cases recently increased by nearly 4,000, the authorities extended this measure for one more month until the 21st of next month.

Measures to further increase vaccination rates are being implemented one after another.

The government has banned people who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine from eating or drinking in hawker centers or coffee shops from the 13th.

Hawker Center is a kind of street restaurant that gathers food from various countries in one place. There are over 100 hawker centers and over 1000 coffee shops in Singapore.

In principle, the use of non-vaccinated people is restricted even in shopping malls and large independent stores.

For those who are reluctant to receive the messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine, such as Pfizer or Moderna, the Chinese cynovac vaccine has recently been included in the national vaccination program so that those who want it can get it for free.

Earlier this month, Minister of Trade and Industry Gan Kim-yong, who co-chaired the government’s task force to respond to COVID-19, said at a press conference earlier this month that there could be more than 5,000 new cases, but “the overwhelming majority are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, so they will recover quickly at home.” has stated that
