Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Won Hee-ryong warned residents of Eunma Apartment in Daechi-dong, who oppose the passage of the GTX-C line underground, “that actions that violate the public interest must be stopped through opposition baseless. “

On the 23rd, Minister Won attended a public hearing held with representatives of Eunma Apartment residents and Hyundai Engineering & Construction, the preferred negotiating partner for the GTX-C route. The current design of the GTX-C line is to build part of the line through the basement of Eunma Apartment Complex.

The residents of Eunma Apartment are demanding that the government change the route, raising concerns about land subsidence during the construction of an underground route. On the other hand, the government’s position is that it is impossible to change the design to meet the opening date (2028) of GTX-C, which is also a promise from President Seok-Yeol Yoon. At the public hearing, Minister Won said, “GTX is a key national project to solve traffic congestion in the metropolitan area.”

Minister Won said, “GTX is a deep tunnel construction of more than 60m underground, and the Eunma Apartment section is designed not by blasting, but by the TBM (tunneling through rotary cutters) method, which’ n using advanced technology.” It also passes under the Han River, but there is no basis to claim that it is dangerous just by passing underground.” He denied that the safety concerns raised by residents were unfounded.

Minister Won also said that if the residents of Eunma Apartment continue to oppose the construction, they will take strict measures, including legal action. Minister Won said, “As a minister, I can never tolerate parts that spread vague concern and interfere with national projects and incite them.” Minister Won said, “A person who owns a small part of the total 4,424 units in Eunma Apartment is taking the lead in trying to manage not only the entire business, but also the national project, which costs a total of 4.3 trillion won, and are taking illegal actions using public funds. We will take every step that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport can take,” he said.

Minister Won said, “It would be difficult for the public to understand that Eunma Apartment is the only one who claims that railroads should not pass under the house despite the safe building law.” We must cooperate for the promotion of Project C as usual.”
