Woojin Jang and Jonghoon Lim (14th) competed in the men’s doubles final on the last day of the 2021 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Table Tennis Championships held in Houston, Texas, USA on the 30th (Korea time), and Sweden’s Christian Carlsson-Mathias Falk (31st place) ) lost 1-3 (8-11 13-15 13-11 10-12). The two players fought hard to reach the men’s doubles final at the World Championships for the first time in their history as a Korean player, but they could not get over the last hurdle and had to be content with the silver medal. However, this medal is the first medal won by Woojin Jang and Jonghoon Lim in the individual world championships.
Jang Woo-jin and Im Jong-hoon struggled against opponents with power, but each game was a close battle. Woo-jin Jang and Jong-hoon Lim, who gave up one game first, narrowed the gap after falling 1-5 in two games and repeated the deuce four times. However, Jang Woo-jin’s last attack hit the net and the game score was 0-2.
In the third game, Woojin Jang and Jonghoon Lim laughed. Jang Woo-jin’s right hand and Lim Jong-hoon’s left hand worked together, and after two deuces, they had three games. However, in the 10-10 deuce of 4 games, Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon’s attacks missed one after another and unfortunately fell to their knees.
Group Karlsson-Falck, who had previously beat China in the quarterfinals and quarterfinals, stopped China’s four consecutive men’s doubles defeats and gave Sweden the men’s doubles gold medal for the first time in 30 years.
