Woo-Jin Jang and Jong-Hoon Lim, world championship finals… New history of men’s table tennis in Korea

In the men’s doubles world ranking 14th place, Woojin Jang and Jonghoon Lim faced their opponents in the quarterfinals against Japan’s Togami and Uda, who were ranked 4th in the world.

The beginning was unsettling.

Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon gave their first game 8-11 to Japan, which they pressed with a backhand, and seemed to reproduce the pain of losing the Asian Championship final a month ago.

But the second game was different.

Lim Jong-hoon’s net play and Jang Woo-jin’s powerful forehand led to Japan’s Beomsil, and the game was easily brought to 11-4.

In the 3rd game, after a tight tie, Jang Woo-jin won game points with a diagonal attack that pierced the opponent’s head, and in the 4th game, where he was leading 10-7, Lim Jong-hoon’s topspin was properly applied and he got the ticket to the final.

Woo-Jin Jang and Jong-Hoon Lim are the first Korean men’s doubles team to advance to the final of the World Championships.

The last time Korea won the world championships in both men’s and women’s singles and doubles was the 1993 Gutenberg Championships in Gutenberg, coach Hyeon Jeong-hwa of the Korean Horse Association.

<임종훈 / 탁구 남자 대표팀> “They were the players we lost last time, but it feels good to win again, and since we made it to the finals, I want to prepare well and win.”

Woo-Jin Chang and Jong-Hoon Lim compete for the gold medal with Sweden’s Carlsson-Falk group, who produced a surprise defeating China, a strong contender for the championship.

It is noteworthy whether Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon will write a new history in Korean table tennis by taking the world’s 31st place, Carlson-Falk, where they will face each other for the first time on the international stage.
