Woods’ practice round at the Masters… Growing potential for field return

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Dongchan Kim = ‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (47, USA) is increasingly likely to participate in the first major tournament Masters of the season, which starts in early April.

The PGA Tour Internet website reported on the 30th that “There are reports that Woods played a practice round at Augusta National, the Masters venue.”

This year’s Masters will open on April 8 (Korean time) at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, USA.

Woods has not been able to compete in the official tournament after seriously injured his leg in a car accident in February last year.

He and his son Charlie participated in the PNC Championship last December, an event competition, but this competition was different from the regular competition method, such as being able to move on a cart.

On that day, Sports Illustrated, a US sports media outlet, reported that “Woods arrived at Augusta National with his son Charlie.” Afterwards, videos and photos of Woods’ private plane at Augusta Airport were released on golf-related social media.

Another American sports media, ESPN and Golf Channel, reported that “Woods played 18 holes with his son Charlie and fellow player Justin Thomas on that day.”

Woods hasn’t competed on a regular tour since the Masters in November 2020, and his latest public appearance was at the Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony earlier this month.

“I’d love to know when I’ll be able to play again,” Woods said at a press conference for the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational held by the Tiger Woods Foundation in February this year. have said

UPI News reported last week that a video was released of Woods playing golf with his caddy, Joe LaCaba, at a medalist golf club near his home.

Woods missed the Masters in four consecutive seasons: 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2021 due to injuries.

Phil Mickelson and Ian Woodsnum (Wales), who will not participate in this year’s Masters, have already notified Augusta National of their intention to withdraw from the tournament, but Woods has not yet officially announced that they will not participate.

Woods has won the Masters five times, in 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2019.

After the sexual scandal in November 2009, his comeback stage was the Masters in April 2010.

On the 16th, American weekly People reported that “Woods is aiming to return to the Masters in 2023.”
