Worst quarantine index ever… Confirmation, severe severity, death, teenage age, ‘highest number in history’

The number of new COVID-19 cases again broke an all-time high.

The number of patients in critical condition and the number of deaths after confirmation also recorded an all-time high, and the number of confirmed cases of the elderly and children and adolescents under the age of 19, who are at high risk for COVID-19, is also increasing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the 4th, the number of new confirmed cases in Korea was 5352 as of 00:00 that day.

This is the largest number ever since collecting related statistics and surpassed the previous record of 5,265 on the 2nd. with 5000 people.

There are 5352 confirmed cases in Korea. 25 people were confirmed through inflows from abroad.

In particular, when looking at the number of confirmed cases by age, the number of confirmed cases stood out among those in their 60s or older and those in their teens.

The number of confirmed cases over the age of 60 was 1,868, or 34.9% of the total, which is the highest ever recorded. The elderly, who are at high risk for COVID-19, have continued to exceed 1800 on the 1st (1,807) and the 2nd (1,864) this month, excluding the 3rd (1696). By age, those in their 60s had the most with 1,061, followed by 535 in their 70s and 272 in their 80s.

The number of confirmed cases of children and adolescents under the age of 19 was 1,090 following the previous day (1,000), and the number was around 1,000 for two days in a row. It is also the largest ever. Teenagers account for 20.4% of all confirmed cases.

Looking at the status of each region, Seoul recorded 2,273 people, recording the 2000s for the 4th day. Next, 4,232 (80.4%) were confirmed in the metropolitan area, including 1,675 in Gyeonggi and 284 in Incheon.

The number of seriously ill patients in hospital stood at 752, an increase of 16 from the previous day (736).

Patients with severe gastritis are in isolation treatment due to difficulties in self-respiration, such as high flow oxygen therapy, artificial respiration, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), and CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy).

The number of patients with severe cases is increasing from 700 on the 4th. Since the 27th of last month, an average of 45.3 cases of severe severe cases have occurred per day for a week. The number of critically ill patients in hospital is 626, a decrease of 124 from the previous day.

On the previous day, 746 new patients were admitted to medical institutions other than home treatment or living treatment centers. The average number of people per day for the past week is 673.

The number of beds for severe COVID-19 patients has exceeded 80% nationwide.

As of 5 p.m. the previous day, 971 out of 1,205 beds for severe COVID-19 across the country were in use, and the utilization rate was 80.6%.

In the metropolitan area where the infection is concentrated, the utilization rate of intensive care beds for COVID-19 was 88.6%. The utilization rate in Seoul recorded 89.7%, a slight decrease from the previous day, but still exceeds 90%.

As of 00:00 on the same day, there were a total of 894 confirmed cases waiting for more than one day in the metropolitan area to be allocated, which was lower than the previous day (902), but 4 people were waiting for allocation in the non-metropolitan area as well.

The death toll from COVID-19 has risen by 70, which is also the highest on a daily basis. The cumulative number of deaths in Korea stood at 3,809, with a fatality rate of 0.81%.

When looking at the death toll by age, the elderly aged 80 and over accounted for 40, or 57.1% of the total. It was followed by 15 people in their 70s and 12 people in their 60s. Three people in their 50s have died from COVID-19. The average daily death rate for the past week has been 45.

As of 00:00 on the same day, a total of 9 cases of Omicron-mutated virus infection were confirmed in Korea.

Of these, four were imported cases from Nigeria. Omicron mutations were detected in 5 cases of domestic infection through them.

The 6th Omicron mutation virus was detected in the sample of the teenage child (3rd patient) of a pastor couple (1st and 2nd patient) in their 40s living in Incheon, where Omicron mutation was first confirmed in Korea. An acquaintance in his 30s (the fourth patient) from Uzbekistan who he came into contact with while moving from home to home was also confirmed to have Omicron mutation.

The additional confirmed cases on this day are presumed to be cases related to the fourth patient, an acquaintance in their 30s (the 5th to 7th patients). There are three people, including the fourth patient’s wife, mother-in-law, and an acquaintance in their 30s.

As of 00:00 on the 4th, 69,528 people were tested for suspected COVID-19 symptoms. 184,146 tests were carried out through the interim screening station.

According to the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team), as of 00:00 on that day, the number of third doses increased by 276,997 in one day, bringing the total to 3,852,154. 7.5% of the total population and 8.7% of adults over the age of 18 completed the third dose.

The number of people who completed the second vaccination (primary vaccination) increased by 89,269 people to a cumulative total of 41,284,671. 80.4% of the total population and 91.7% of adults. The number of primary vaccinations increased by 33,213 to 42,653,944. The vaccination rate is 83.1% of the total population and 93.6% of adults over the age of 18.
