Wu-Tang Clan Inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2026

The Wu-Tang Clan has been officially voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. The announcement, made on Monday, April 13, 2026, recognizes the Staten Island collective’s profound impact on music and culture, marking a significant milestone for the group and the broader hip-hop genre.

The group’s induction comes during their first year of nomination. With the addition of the Wu-Tang Clan, alongside other hip-hop pioneers being honored this year, We find now 18 hip-hop acts represented in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This trajectory began in 2007 with the induction of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, followed by other influential acts such as Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and N.W.A.

The Class of 2026 Inductees

The Wu-Tang Clan joins a diverse group of artists in the Performer category for 2026. Other inductees include Oasis, Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Sade, Billy Idol, Luther Vandross, and the combined entry of Joy Division and New Order.

In addition to the main Performer category, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced recipients for several special awards:

• Early Influence Award: This award, which recognizes pioneers in music and culture, will be presented to Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, and Gram Parsons.
• Musical Excellence Award: Honorees include producer Rick Rubin, producer Jimmy Miller, producer Arif Mardin, and songwriter Linda Creed.
• Ahmet Ertegun Award: This honor will be given to Ed Sullivan.

The selection process involved an international voting body consisting of more than 1,200 inductees, music industry professionals, and historians. While many achieved induction, several high-profile nominees did not receive enough votes to make the final cut, including Shakira, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, P!nk, Jeff Buckley, and the Black Crowes. New Edition also missed out despite winning a symbolic fan vote.

Broader Industry Impact and Other Inductees

The 2026 class includes several artists with unique paths to induction. Phil Collins, who was previously inducted as a member of Genesis in 2010, enters the Hall this year as a solo artist. Billy Idol described the induction as a perfect payoff for a career spanning five decades.

Liam Gallagher of Oasis joked that the band secured their spot through reverse psychology before noting that being in the Hall of Fame had been a dream of his since he was a child singing in the shower.

Peter Hook, the former bassist for Joy Division and New Order, expressed that he had been looking forward to it for years and used the occasion to remember his late bandmate, Ian Curtis.

Ceremony and Broadcast Details

The formal induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 14, 2026, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, described the induction as music’s highest honor.

Fans who cannot attend the live event in Los Angeles will be able to watch the ceremony in December 2026, when This proves broadcast on ABC and streamed via Disney+.
