It is known that a woman in her 20s who is working as a model and actress in Yemen during the civil war is being sexually harassed and abused.
Human Rights Watch (HRW), an international human rights organization, said that Intasar al-Hammadi, 20, a model and actor who is currently working as a model and actor in Yemen, was arrested in February while on a trip in Sanaa, the capital city, by rebel Houthis and subjected to various physical and verbal abuse reported
Alhammadi and three others were also arrested at the time.
Alhammadi, a lawyer who said he was arrested on uncertain charges, said, “After his arrest, he was abused and abused by the guards, calling them ‘prostitutes’ and ‘slaves’ because of their dark skin and Ethiopian descent.
He said, “I did not receive help from a lawyer during the trial, and I was forced to test for virginity along with confessions related to various crimes.”
HRW said the Houthis arrested al-Hammadi because they had labeled a photo taken while modeling as decadent and considered him a prostitute.
Alhammadi was born to a Yemeni father and an Ethiopian mother, and started modeling four years ago at the age of 16. He has also appeared in the TV dramas Sad al-Ghareeb and Ghorbat al-Bun.
He is currently responsible for the livelihood of a family of four, including his blind father and disabled brother.
Meanwhile, the war in Yemen is regarded as a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia. It has been going on for over 6 years since 2014. The civil war has killed more than 130,000 people and displaced more than 4 million people.
