While Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon is expected to reshuffle some of the prosecution’s command divisions as early as today, the prosecutor’s flag is waving in the wind at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 18th. yunhap news

While the joint financial and securities crime investigation team, revived by Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon, was launched on the 18th, the first investigation target was confirmed to be the recent collapse of the Luna and Terra Coins.

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office announced on the same day that it would relaunch the existing Financial and Securities Crime Investigation Team (Cooperation Group) by changing the name to the Financial and Securities Crime Joint Investigation Team (Collaborative Team).

It has been two years and four months since it was abolished as part of the prosecution reform in January 2020, when Choo Mi-ae was the former Minister of Justice.

The group consisted of 48 people, 7 prosecutors, and employees dispatched to related institutions such as the FSC and the Financial Supervisory Service. In particular, investigators and staff from related agencies were placed in the prosecutor’s office to strengthen direct investigation support for prosecutors.

SBS reported that the first investigation by the Hap Sudan was confirmed to be the case of the Korean cryptocurrency Luna and Terra, which caused large-scale investor damage due to the recent collapse.

Prosecutors believe that the so-called ‘Ponzi scheme’ is suspected, which returns promised profits to existing investors with new investment.

According to SBS, the coin issuer Terraform Labs decided that the method of attracting investors by depositing money in Terra Coins, converting them into Luna Coins and promising 20% annual interest rate, could be an illegal similar receiving act, SBS reported.

The consortium is also planning to re-investigate the Lime-Optimus fund case.

In the past, allegations of political-relationship lobbying over the Lime and Optimus incident were raised, but it was settled as a financial crime.

Re-investigation of the Lime and Optimus incident is expected to have a significant impact on the political arena, but the opposition party may strongly oppose it, defining it as ‘political retaliation’ rather than a just investigation.

An official from the prosecution said through SBS, “We have decided to review the allegations surrounding the two cases from the beginning.” “The investigation will resume in earnest after the move.”
