The Cargo Regiment held a ceremony and went on an indefinite general strike.

In a situation where there are concerns about disruption of logistics, the government has made it clear that it will respond to illegal acts with a zero tolerance principle, and has made a strong response stance.

The road in front of the Uiwang Inland Container Base, a key logistics base in the metropolitan area, was filled with members of the Cargo Solidarity.

The Cargo Solidarity held a general strike ceremony at 16 major logistics centers across the country, including Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, Gwangyang Port in Jeollanam-do, and Hyundai Steel in Chungcheongnam-do.

The Cargo Workers Union launched its second general strike this year following last June, demanding the permanent maintenance of the safe price system and the expansion of targets which currently only apply to the transport of containers and cement.

The safe fare system is a system that guarantees the minimum transport cost according to the distance to prevent overworking or speeding of cargo drivers, and is due to be abolished at the end of this year according to the sunset system.

Korea Cargo Solidarity says that nearly 700 people die in truck accidents every year, and that the safe freight rate system is the only legal system that can protect cargo workers.

“Cargo workers who work more than 12 hours a day for a month, and even a full 16 hours a day to barely make ends meet, can no longer fuel their trucks with death and pain.”

Around 25,000 union members took part in this strike, which is concerned about disruptions to logistics in major industries such as cement, tires and steel.

Currently, the government is extending the sunset deadline for another three years, but it is difficult to expand items.

The government has held talks 56 times so far, and instead the cargo union refused to organize a TF to reflect the bill saying it made unreasonable demands.

The government plans to operate an emergency transport headquarters to use official and military vehicles, and is also preparing a business start-up order that has never been published before.

The government also announced that it would respond with a zero tolerance principle to illegal actions such as blocking transport.
