KCTU strike warning continues… more pressure on the government

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the main organization of the cargo union, plans to continue its fight through a general strike this week following a large-scale rally yesterday (3rd).

The government raises the level of pressure by making it clear that it is prepared to expand the target of the business start-up order at any time.

“Expand the safe freight rate system!”

Following the opening of the National Workers’ Congress in Seoul and Busan, the KCTU will begin a nationwide general strike on Tuesday.

One of the key agenda is also the government’s condemnation of the cargo unity business start-up order.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions plans to communicate with the regional headquarters of the Korea Cargo Unity and continue to drive the struggle by holding rallies in all major centers.

“I will fight vigorously so that I can proudly say that the fight of cargo workers is a fight to protect the safety of the people.”

However, analysis that the power of the strike has weakened compared to the early days of the cargo union refuses to ship due to the harsh response of the government.

Container transport at 12 ports across the country, including Busan Port, has risen from 20% before the order started business to 80% compared to normal.

It is still less than a quarter of the normal level, but from the last 2 days, the number of container imports and exports from major logistics centers in the metropolitan area has doubled in a day.

In this situation, the government increases the level of pressure further with sanctions against cement truck drivers who do not return even after receiving an order to start business.

If the order is not complied with for the first time, operation will be suspended for less than 30 days, and the cargo transportation qualification will be canceled for the second time.

“Return to work as soon as possible to minimize damage to the national economy and people’s livelihoods for transporters and truck owners who have received start-of-business orders.”

As logistics disruptions such as steel and oil refining continue across the country, the government is also considering holding a temporary cabinet meeting and issuing additional business start-up orders.
