Budget Negotiation Deadline D-2 ‘Corporate Tax Replacement’… National Investigation of Nervous Behavior

[앵커]

The deadline for processing next year’s budget bill, which the ruling and opposition parties have set again, is now two days away.

However, they still can’t bridge their differences over the biggest issue, whether it’s lowering the top corporate tax rate.

People’s Power Joo Ho-young and Democratic Party floor leader Park Hong-geun met for almost an hour from 2:00 pm and tried to reach a budget bill, but failed to close the gap.

The biggest issue is whether or not to reduce corporate tax.

The government and the ruling party are in a position to reduce the top tax rate from 25% to 22%.

Only then can investment and job creation by domestic companies be stimulated, and foreign capital can be attracted.

The power of the people pointed out that the Democratic Party is opposing by citing its party identity, so negotiations cannot go a step further.

“How would you explain the fact that Presidents Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun, whose pictures were hung in the representative office of the Democratic Party, lowered the corporate tax by 1-2%?”

In response, the Democratic Party refuted that it was the situation at the time, claiming that it still could not agree to the ‘extremely rich tax break’ for only 103 large companies.

Given the reduction benefits, etc., the actual taxes paid by large corporations are much lower, and the ‘trickle down’ effect from the corporate tax cut effect has never been realised.

It has been repeatedly emphasized that the target to give benefits is not large corporations, but 54,000 small and medium enterprises.

“The power of the people is to cut down to the top section, and the Democratic Party wants to give broad benefits to small and medium enterprises, which is the bottom section…”

The Democratic Party also criticized that negotiations are not proceeding because of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who ordered the processing of the corporate tax law, and the ruling party only looking at President Yoon’s mouth.

If this conflict continues and the opposition parties fail to reach an agreement, the Democratic Party is pressing it again and again to deal with a ‘only amendment’ in the plenary the day after tomorrow (15th) .

While the opposition insisted this was a ‘national tax cut’, the ruling party set the day, saying, “I’m trying to break a shuttlecock’s leg and fix it,” asking if it would rise all the taxes during the last government and cut them now.

Both parties said they would continue the discussion, but attention is focused on whether a last-minute agreement can be reached within the processing deadline approaching two days from now.

As the budget conflict has been protracted, the government’s investigation into the ‘Itaewon disaster’ has not properly started.

Even over this, the competition and opposition is fierce?

Yes, first of all, the power of the people is the position that the Democratic Party has broken its promise to hold accountability after the parliamentary investigation.

The motion to dismiss Lee Sang-min, the Minister of Public Administration and Security, is said to have been forcefully processed before he could even find out where he was in charge.

People’s Power Joo Ho-young, the floor leader, argued that the Democratic Party “is trying to use the investigation of state affairs for politics or politics.”

However, he did not explain the meaning of ‘boycott the government investigation’, saying, “I will see the situation after the budget is processed.”

On the other hand, the Democratic Party intends to start a parliamentary investigation immediately after processing the budget.

Regarding the resignation comments of the members of the party that controls the Special Committee on Investigating the Government, they were criticized as being “reckless” and “trying to neutralize the government’s investigation.”

Members of the Democratic Party’s special parliamentary investigation committee have put pressure on the ruling party to conduct a parliamentary investigation on its own from tomorrow if it does not announce its intention to return by today (13th).

Bereaved families of the ‘Itaewon Disaster’ also visited the National Assembly and urged members of the ruling party’s Special Committee on State Affairs to return to the investigation into state affairs, saying the government’s investigation should cover the several are responsible and take steps to prevent it happening again.

So far, it has been presented in the National Assembly.
