Abandoned dog isolated from volcanic eruption in Spain attempts rescue by flying drone

An unprecedented effort to rescue an abandoned dog from a month-long volcanic eruption on La Palma in the Spanish Canary Islands is set to take place, AFP reports.

A drone operation is underway to rescue four dogs that have been locked up for weeks in the island’s Todoke village, which is now covered in volcanic ash and erupting lava.

The dogs are emaciated, unable to eat anything, trapped in an empty water tank in the village where the villagers left.

On the island of La Palma, lava continued to erupt after a volcano erupted on the 19th of last month, and more than 6,000 residents were evacuated.
