Ahn Cheol-soo announces his candidacy today… third challenge

Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the People’s Party, officially announces his third presidential challenge this morning.

As a result, next year’s presidential election is a four-way battle between the Democratic Party and People’s Power, the Justice Party and the People’s Party.

Reporter Kim Soo-gang reports.

Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the People’s Party, officially announces his candidacy for president at the National Assembly Square this morning.

This is Ahn’s third presidential challenge.

In his first challenge in 2012, he resigned midway in the process of unification with then-Democratic United Party candidate Moon Jae-in.

With Ahn’s declaration of candidacy, the presidential election this year will be structured as a four-way confrontation with the Democratic Party, People’s Power, Justice Party, and then the People’s Party.

If you add Kim Dong-yeon, former Deputy Prime Minister of Economy, who is preparing to establish a new party, a five-character structure is created.

As Ahn is evaluated as having the scalability to attract not only conservative votes but also moderate votes, it is expected to cause considerable ripples on both the Democratic Party and the power of the people.

Ahn has recently set a date for the two major parties, revealing his presence as an alternative.

“The two major parties ‘all-in’ in the frame war between the ‘Lee Jae-myung Gate’ or the ‘People’s Power Gate’. The people are being beaten here and there.”

Politicians are interested in whether President Ahn will run for president through the power of the people or through unification with former Deputy Prime Minister Kim Dong-yeon, or run independently.

In particular, the power of the people, who started voting for the party members for the presidential candidate on this day, seems to be engrossed in understanding Ahn’s truth.

With the 4.7 Seoul Mayor’s re-election as an opportunity, the two parties tried to negotiate a merger, but failed, so it is expected that there is a possibility of unification in this election as well.

It is evaluated that it does not have the same destructive power as in the past, but if the votes of the ‘shaman’ are drawn, CEO Ahn is expected to play the role of a casting boat that can shake the presidential election.
