The government is expected to make a decision on Friday and announce whether to extend the current social distancing measures.

However, there are many opinions that some indicators, such as the number of severe cases, are not improving, and there is an omicron variable, so we need to keep an eye on it.

Last week, the national corona risk was at the ‘very high’ level.

However, the quarantine indicators that evaluate it are improving somewhat.

The utilization rate of intensive care units nationwide, which has continued to increase for seven consecutive weeks, has decreased slightly, and the ratio of occurrence to medical response capacity has also decreased slightly.

The weekly infection reproduction index also decreased to less than 1 nationwide after the phased daily recovery was implemented, and the rate of confirmed patients over the age of 60 is also on the decline.

The government sees that the overall epidemic is on a downward trend as a result of a series of measures to strengthen quarantine, and plans to decide and announce whether to extend the social distancing measures on Friday, looking at the situation.

However, as the number of severe cases and deaths continues to increase, it is difficult to see a steady decline.

Experts point out that even in preparation for the spread of Omicron, it is necessary to maintain the current distance of a little more.

<백순영 / 가톨릭대 의대 명예교수> “Even if the number is reduced to 4,000 to 5,000 by the end of the year, the number of perjury patients is expected to remain the same.

On the other hand, the quarantine authorities said that through a recent Omicron culture experiment, they confirmed that Omicron has higher transmission power than Delta, but there is no difference in the period of virus shedding at an infectious level.

Accordingly, the guidelines, such as reducing the quarantine period for Omicron patients, which are longer than the current Delta, will be revised and applied as early as next month.
