A picture of President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife Kim Kun-hee sitting side by side in the Oval Office was published on Facebook, raising criticism that the security was insufficient.

Previously, Mrs. Kim visited the office of the President’s Office in Yongsan twice from the 27th to the 28th.

The problem arose on the 29th when Mrs. Kim’s fan club posted several photos of President Yoon and Mrs. Kim in their office on their Facebook account. In particular, controversy arose when a photo taken in the president’s public space, where security was required, was released through Mrs. Kim’s fan club.

An official from the presidential office met with reporters on the 30th and said, “If possible, photos related to the official event should be made public, otherwise there is no reason to ask for photos.” It is pointed out that it is not desirable to intervene at the level of the presidential office in private activities inside and outside President Yoon. The published photos are also interpreted to mean the personal will of Mrs. Kim.

Nevertheless, the fact that photos taken in the Oval Office, where photography is prohibited without prior permission, were released to the fan club without the presidential office’s approval process is raising security concerns.

To the reporters’ questions about the photographer, the official said, “It is difficult to say specifically, but he is someone who can take photos in the office.”

Also, when asked who provided the photo to the fan club, the official said, “I think it’s Mrs. Kim. Is that a huge problem?”

He continued, “I think Ms. Kim passed the photo to the fan club. She had a commemorative photo taken over the weekend and passed it on to someone she knew.”

Park Ji-hyeon, chairman of the Joint Emergency Response Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the same day, “President Yoon turned the office of the president into a living room for the family.” He criticized, “The president’s office is a place that deals with state secrets, and it is by no means a private area.”
