Yoon Woo-jin (66), former head of Yongsan Tax Office, who is accused of taking back money and acting as a broker in return for a tax audit, was arrested by the prosecution. Former Chief Yoon is the older brother of Yoon Dae-jin, the head of the planning department (chief prosecutor), who is known as an aide to Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate for the Power of the People.

Judge Lee Se-chang of the Seoul Central District Court in charge of warrants issued an arrest warrant on the 7th, saying, “The criminal charges have been cleared and there is a risk of destroying evidence and fleeing.”

Former Chief Yoon is accused of receiving money and valuables worth 130 million won from two people, including a real estate developer in Incheon, in the name of making a solicitation to a tax authority official from 2017 to 2018 (violation of the Attorney Act). There is also an allegation of taking money and valuables from a corporation last year in exchange for arranging legal affairs.

Prosecutors reported that Yoon received money from so-called ‘sponsors’ such as businessmen and acted as a broker to introduce lawyers and tax authorities, and requested an arrest warrant. Earlier, on October 19, the prosecution indicted Choi, a fishing ground operator, who was suspected of colluding with former chief Yoon in the process of real estate development in Yeongjongdo, Incheon and lobbying for political and relations, on charges of violating the Attorney Act. Choi is accused of taking 645 million won from two people, including Mr.

Former Chief Yoon was summoned to the prosecution on the 1st of last month and questioned about the allegations. On the 17th of last month, former Chief Yoon and Mr. A, who was the author of the case, were summoned at the same time to conduct a cross-examination. The prosecution then requested an arrest warrant for Yoon on the 3rd.

Separately, the 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office is also looking into allegations that former Chief Yoon received bribes from meat importers between 2010 and 2011. Former Chief Yoon had fled abroad after being investigated by the police for this case in the past. He was later arrested and repatriated to Korea, but the prosecution decided not to prosecute in 2015 because there was no compensation. In particular, suspicions were raised that Candidate Yoon, who was the head of the 1st division of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office at the time, directly or indirectly intervened, including introducing a lawyer.
