Ousena Hegde says that the notion that you can make a film in Malayalam only if you settle down in Ernakulam and work there has changed. He says he had to rely on Ernakulam for only a few post-production works. ‘Monday Nishchayam’, directed entirely by Senna Hegde and shot entirely in Kanhangad, won the State Film Award for Best Second Film and Best Screenplay and also received a good response in the ODT release. The story of the film is also by Hegde.

Although a few films like ‘Thondi Muthalum Driksakshiyum’ have Kasargod as the protagonist, the full-fledged Kasargod film has never been seen in Malayalam.
There are a lot of artists working in the field of cinema here. It’s just that I’m getting to know many people now. Even Vaishakhan, the director of Puli Murugan, which crossed Rs 100 crore in Malayalam, is from Kasaragod. Kanhangad is a great place to make a movie. I don’t like to go to other places and do movies because I like country and home very much.
I came to Kasargod with a passion for cinema after resigning from my job in the US. After reaching Kanhangad home, the film was made based on what was seen around. My father is from Kanhangad and my mother is from Mangalore. I am a Malayalee living in Kanhangad. The film was initially planned to be made in Kannada as I had studied in Mangalore and was somewhat familiar with the Kannada language. But later it was felt that ‘Work on Monday’ in Malayalam would only become a workout in Kanhangadan language.

The film is produced by Pushkar Films, a leading Kannada production company. When I told them, I was relieved to hear that the language was not a problem. The film needs good stories. Finding a good story is hard. Matters including budget are decided later. Stories are ready to make 3 movies. Two of these are their own stories. One of the pictures is of newcomers only.

Kanhangade wedding engagement
A house in Kanhangad has to make a quick engagement. Monday is a good day to do that. The film tells the story of 2 days before this appointment. The film stars newcomers from Kanhangad to Payyanur. All the characters are given the same importance in the film.
The film, which was completed in August 2020, was also screened at IFFK. Senna’s third film is scheduled for Monday. The first image is 0.41. He later directed the Kannada film Kathayundu Shuruvakuthe. He also said that discussions are underway to screen the film in theaters or OTD.
Senna’s house is in Kanhangad Thoyammal. Senna lives in one of the rented houses bought for the film as the house and land were given away as part of the NH development.
