Zee TV news anchor Rohit Ranjan detained by UP police over Rahul Gandhi doctored video

The case is for misrepresenting Rahul Gandhi’s statement that it was children who destroyed MP’s office in Wayanad and that he was not angry with them, that it was about those who killed tailor Kanayyalal in Udaipur.

New Delhi: The UP Police on Tuesday morning arrested Sea TV News anchor Rohit Ranjan for falsely circulating a video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The case is for misrepresenting Rahul Gandhi’s statement that it was children who destroyed the MP office in Wayanad and that he was not angry with them, that it was about those who killed tailor Kanayyalal in Udaipur.

Chhattisgarh police officers had reached Ranjan’s residence to arrest him in connection with the FIR registered against him earlier, but the UP police arrived and took him into custody. “Chhattisgarh police standing outside my house to arrest me without informing local police, is this legal,” the journalist tweeted this morning.

A senior UP police officer said that Zee News had demanded legal action against its employees for providing a fake video in the name of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. An FIR has been registered under Section 505 of the IPC. Since Ranjan was the host of the program, he was brought to the police station for questioning. The official said that Chhattisgarh police reached the spot to arrest him, but they took him into custody.

Last Friday night, Sea News’ D.N.A. In a show called Prime Time, Rahul’s statement on the Wayanad office attack was misrepresented as referring to the Udaipur killers. This was shared by BJP leaders former minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Subrat Pathak MP and MLA Kamlesh Saini on social media.

Congress leaders later pointed out that the video was false and Rathore first withdrew the video and later re-uploaded it. After this, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh came to the scene. The channel and Ranjan came to the scene and clarified that the mistake happened on the second day by wrongly giving the video.

False propaganda has been done in North India regarding Rahul’s visit to Wayanad. During the election campaign, in a rally held in Wayanad, the BJP had spread the word that the green flag waved by the Muslim League workers was the flag of Pakistan.
