Beijing welcomed over 270,000 visitors to the China Open by October 4, 2026, marking a 37 percent increase over the same period in 2025, according to reporting by China Daily. The tournament recorded five consecutive days with single-day visitor counts exceeding 35,000, while individual daily crowds surpassed 40,000 on October 1 and October 2 to set new historical tournament records.
China Open Spending Exceeds 3200万元
The surge in spectator numbers translated directly into commercial growth across the tournament grounds. China Daily reported that total audience spending at the China Open exceeded 3200万元. Special merchandise sales accounted for nearly 2200万元 of that total, significantly outpacing the total figures from the 2025 event cycle.
Catering revenue surpassed 900万元, while general retail sales contributed over 110万元 to the local economy. At the venue itself, 39-year-old Novak Djokovic defeated top seed Alexander Zverev of Germany in a three-set quarterfinal match on October 4, advancing to the men’s singles semifinals before a crowd of 13,333 spectators representing a 99.2 percent seating capacity at Diamond Court.
Expanded Fan Experiences Drive Retail Growth
Official merchandise operations experienced unprecedented demand during the holiday window. Yin Xufei, head of the official China Open merchandise store, noted that the two primary shops near the north and south gates each recorded over 10,000 daily visitors during the National Day holiday, offering nearly a thousand distinct product lines.
Beyond the main grounds, organizers established a four-tier scene system incorporating tech partnerships and remote viewing sites. China Daily noted that three designated live viewing areas at Fangshan Capital Outlet, the 798 Art District, and the South Square of the Water Cube, alongside five commercial district hubs, welcomed nearly 800,000 people and generated close to 1.5亿元 in related economic activity through October 4.

Beijing Athletic Events Drive Integrated Micro-Vacation Tourism
China Tourism Academy Director Dai Bin noted that the extended industry chains and diverse consumption environments reflect a broader national shift toward integrated cultural, sports, tourism, and commercial micro-vacations.
Tennis and WTT Finals Precede City Marathon Events
The tournament schedule continues with Zheng Qinwen facing Marie Bouzková and 16-year-old Sun Xinran challenging American third seed Coco Gauff. The WTT mixed doubles final is scheduled for October 9, followed by the doubles finals on October 10 and the singles finals on October 11.
Running events will also launch, including the Bank of China Beijing Marathon 10-kilometer event at Longtan Zhonghu Park and the 2026 Haidian Marathon at Zhongguancun One-No. on October 11, alongside youth curling and football championships across the city.
