Bid Notice: New Sports Building at James Park, Monroe Township - News Directory 3

Monroe Township is accepting sealed bids for the construction of a new sports building at James Monroe Park. The project, which includes an Indoor Sports Practice Facility, has seen a significant increase in projected costs compared to initial estimates.

Township staff informed residents during a meeting on January 6 that bids for the park improvements returned between approximately $2.037 million and $2.7 million. These figures were substantially higher than an earlier engineer’s estimate of $1.528 million.

The township engineer and staff explained that the original estimate of $1.528 million was produced roughly two years prior to the January 6 meeting. Officials stated that the new bids, which included 77 bid items and several lump-sum line items, were consistent with current market pricing.

Project Scope and Infrastructure

The planned renovations involve the replacement of the existing restrooms and concession stand with a new building. This facility will house an updated concession area and ADA-compliant restrooms.

Project Scope and Infrastructure

The project includes several critical infrastructure upgrades:

  • Installation of a commercial septic system designed to handle the new building and future site improvements, including the addition of grease traps.
  • Installation of a new well and new water service to address intermittent low water supply issues experienced with the current well.
  • Electrical upgrades throughout the site.
  • Improvements to walking paths to ensure ADA compliance.

The bid process for the Indoor Sports Practice Facility was previously addressed during a Township of Monroe regular meeting on September 3, 2025.
