A 37-year-old construction worker sustained injuries on October 10th after a crane malfunctioned at the Sin Ming Residences Build-To-Order (BTO) project site. The incident occurred during crane demobilization, prompting an immediate response from emergency services and a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) investigation.
What Happened?
At approximately 5:25 PM on October 10th, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) received a distress call regarding an accident at a construction site located at 28 Sin Ming Street. The site is the location of the Sin Ming Residences BTO project,a development expected to deliver approximately 650 flats by 2026.
Preliminary investigations by the MOM reveal that the accident happened during the demobilization process of a mobile crane. The crane boom unexpectedly broke, causing the jib to fall to the ground. Tragically, a worker overseeing the dismantling operation was struck by the falling component.
Injuries and Medical Response
The injured worker was promptly transported to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Details regarding the specific type of surgery remain undisclosed at this time. The severity of his injuries has not been publicly released, but the incident underscores the inherent risks associated with construction work.
According to MOM data, there were 15 fatal workplace accidents in the first half of 2023, a slight increase from the 13 reported in the same period last year. Non-fatal injuries also remain a concern, with a total of 538 cases reported in the first six months of 2023.

Kwan Yong construction is identified as the occupier of the construction site, responsible for the overall management and safety of the project.
