The 2026 European Weightlifting Championships will be held in Batumi, Georgia, from 19 to 26 April 2026, serving as a qualification event for the XXIII Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later that year.
The competition will feature athletes from traditional European nations as well as select non-European teams eligible for Commonwealth Games qualification, including Jersey, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, South Africa, and separate teams representing England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland alongside a unified Great Britain squad.
Armenian weightlifter Edmon Avetisyan will compete for England in the championships, aiming to secure a place at the Commonwealth Games. Athletes of Armenian origin are also included in the squads of Russia, Ukraine, Austria, and Bosnia, and Herzegovina.
South Africa has confirmed two athletes for the competition: Cheyenne Smith in the women’s 86kg category with an entry total of 178kg, and Christoffel Reeders in the men’s 110kg+ category with an entry total of 312kg. The Refugee Olympic Team will also be represented by Ramiro Mora Romero.
All competition times will be in local Batumi time (UTC+4). The preliminary schedule released by the European Weightlifting Federation outlines arrivals and meetings beginning on 16 April 2026, with the International Technical Officials arriving and a seminar for competition doctors held that day.
On 17 April 2026, the EWF Ordinary Congress and an Extraordinary Partial Electoral Congress will take place, the latter focused exclusively on filling vacancies within the federation’s governance structure.
The championships will follow the standard weightlifting format, with athletes competing in the snatch and clean & jerk disciplines across various weight categories for both men and women. Final entry lists per category are expected to be released closer to the event date.
Live coverage and full results will be available through official European Weightlifting Federation channels and partner broadcasters, with detailed schedules and start lists to be published as the event approaches.
