The Friedkin Group is exploring a sale of at least a part of its stake in Everton Football Club less than two years after completing a takeover of the English Premier League side. The investment consortium led by United States businessman Dan Friedkin acquired a majority stake in the club in December 2024 from Farhad Moshiri and Blue Heaven Holdings. At the time of that acquisition, the club faced significant financial difficulty and on-pitch struggles. Now, the ownership group has engaged investment bank Moelis & Company to lead a sales process examining options that range from a partial stake sale to a full takeover.

The Valuation and Hill Dickinson Stadium Asset

In May 2026, Forbes valued Everton at $930 million, placing the club 25th among soccer clubs globally. That valuation is driven largely by annual revenues of $255 million and the completion of the 52,769-seater Hill Dickinson Stadium, the newest venue in the Premier League. However, the rising cost of competing in the Premier League may protract the sales process, prompting the ownership group to consider various investment structures rather than a strict total sale.

Everton Ownership Considers Sale of Controlling Interest

Everton released an official statement confirming that ownership is open to new investment options, including a potential sale of a controlling interest. Liverpool Echo reported the statement read that the immediate priority upon taking custodianship was providing stability and bringing the long-promised stadium to completion for supporters. With that foundation in place, the group stated that the time is right to consider the next chapter. The sales exploration follows a summer transfer window where Everton spent £88 million, ranking as the sixth-lowest outgoings in the division, while rival Premier League clubs drove total spending past £3.5 billion in an arms race for talent, according to the Financial Times report cited by Liverpool Echo.

Wider Holdings in European Football and Houston Expansion Talks

Beyond Everton, the Friedkin portfolio includes Italian Serie A side AS Roma and French third-tier club AS Cannes. The Friedkin family also entered exploratory talks in June with the National Hockey League regarding an expansion franchise in Houston, Texas. That prospective franchise would require an estimated $3.5 billion to cover the expansion fee and arena construction costs, creating capital demands.
