Tenants at The Vantage apartment complex in Beachwood, Ohio, are reporting sudden and dramatic increases in their monthly gas bills, with some costs spiking from less than $20 to several hundred dollars. Residents of the 700-unit complex have expressed concerns regarding the lack of explanations from management, as well as issues with cold water and a lack of heat.
According to reporting from 19 News (WOIO), multiple residents have documented significant price hikes in April 2026. Jasmin Mone reported that her monthly gas bill rose from $25 to nearly $300, representing an increase of $282. Mone stated that when she sought an explanation from the leasing office, she was told I have to pay it
.
Melissa Kuculko reported a similar trend, noting that her most expensive gas bill prior to this spike was $13.60 in December 2025. In April 2026, her bill reached $131.50, which Kuculko described as a 1,000 percent increase
.
Another resident, Louis Santos, stated that his gas bills typically averaged $35 per month. In April 2026, his bill increased to $439. Santos claimed that management was unable to provide a thorough explanation or present proof that the charges were based on the actual usage from his specific unit.
Management Response
When 19 News Troubleshooters visited the complex office to investigate the claims, an office worker declined to provide a comment. The manager subsequently requested that the news crew leave the premises, citing that the complex is private property.

Ma’am, how are you? I’m fine. I’m going to have to ask you to leave. It’s private property. These are paying tenants. I understand, and we can speak with them individually, but not with the news.
The Vantage Apartment Manager
Following the departure of the news crew, the manager spoke with Jasmin Mone. According to Mone, the manager stated that the office is looking into the issue and expressed hope that gas numbers would decrease by June 2026, though no concrete figures or evidence were provided to support this projection.
Tenant Concerns and Property Details
Beyond the financial impact, residents have reported concerns over the quality of essential services, specifically citing a lack of heat and the presence of cold water.
Tenants also expressed fear of potential retaliation for speaking publicly about the billing issues. Residents told 19 News that retaliation has occurred in the past and indicated they would monitor and report any evictions resulting from their decision to speak out.
The Vantage apartments are located at 27040 Cedar Rd, Beachwood, OH 44122. The complex consists of 700 units and maintains standard business hours from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Wednesday.
