The Dutch Orange Bus is beginning a long journey from Europe to the United States to lead supporters of the Netherlands national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The vehicle, which serves as a centerpiece for the dedicated fan base known as the Orange Legion, is scheduled to depart approximately 56 days before the tournament begins.
According to reporting from KHOU, the double-decker bus will undertake a six-week sea voyage to Galveston, Texas. From there, the vehicle will travel north via I-45 toward Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including a planned stop at AT&T Stadium in North Texas, as reported by Fox 4 News.
A Symbol of Dutch Fan Culture
Operated by the Dutch Orange Bus Association, the vehicle has evolved from a novelty into a global symbol of national pride. The tradition began more than two decades ago when two founders purchased the bus as a joke during a trip to the United Kingdom. The owners subsequently modified the bus with a terrace-style balcony and painted it bright orange, the national color of the Netherlands.

The bus is now used to lead vibrant parades and high-energy marches where fans sing and dance ahead of international matches. Kim Van Wijk, a member of the Dutch Orange Bus Association, described the scale of the operation to KHOU, noting that the hobby of shipping the bus around the world has become completely insane
and expensive.
The Orange Legion in the United States
The arrival of the bus is expected to draw significant attention in Texas, where the Orange Legion is known for its friendly takeovers and high-energy presence. The group intends to lead parades through Houston and other host cities, with some reports indicating the bus may also head toward Kansas City.
Among the supporters joining the spectacle is Daniel Oordt, a prominent Dutch superfan known for wearing an orange suit. Oordt, who was born in the Netherlands and has lived in the United States for the last ten years, has attended every Dutch national team game since November 2015. Oordt gained international visibility during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where his presence frequently appeared on television broadcasts.
Tournament Aspirations
While the Orange Legion brings a festive atmosphere to the tournament, the supporters maintain a level of caution regarding the team’s performance. As noted by Fox 4 News, the Netherlands currently holds the record for the most World Cup final appearances without a victory.
Despite this history, organizers and fans remain hopeful. The group’s travel plans are ambitious, with organizers expressing the hope that the iconic orange bus will eventually reach the tournament final in New York.
The deployment of the bus is part of a broader effort by Dutch fans to stand out in the crowds of the 2026 tournament, utilizing their signature orange gear and the double-decker vehicle to create a visible wave of support for the national team across various U.S. Host cities.
