Lidl Wicklow Store Plans – New Location Details
Blessington Braces for Boost: Lidl Plans €3 Million investment, Promising jobs and Revitalized Townscape
blessington is on the cusp of a notable economic and aesthetic transformation, as Lidl unveils plans for a new store that promises to inject €3 million into the local economy and create up to 25 full-time jobs. The proposed growth, anchored by a licensed discount foodstore, represents a major investment in the area and a commitment to enhancing the town’s retail landscape.
For years, Lidl has been actively seeking a suitable location in and around Blessington, and this proposed development marks a significant step forward. Beyond the immediate job creation, estimated to generate €1.3 million annually in local wages, the construction phase alone is projected to contribute €3 million in wages. This influx of capital promises to stimulate growth and prospect throughout the community.
The planned store boasts a 2,305 sqm gross floor space, including a 1,499 sqm net retail sales area for the discount foodstore and a 1,350 sqm convenience net sales area. In addition to the retail space, the development will feature a café (140 sqm) with external seating and a small office for commercial use, further diversifying the offerings available to residents.
According to The Planning Partnership, representing Lidl in the application, the development aims to provide Blessington with “an enhanced retail offer, serving the town and its catchment with an appropriate level of food shopping facilities, whilst not disturbing the existing pattern of trade in the town.” The project is also envisioned as a “positive contribution to the character of the area, being a timely and complimentary enhancement to the townscape and reversing vacancy and decay.”
