A man has died after falling from a jet ski on Lough Neagh, the largest lake in Ireland, following a multi-agency search and rescue operation on Thursday, May 1, 2026.
The victim has been identified locally as Shea McGreevy. Following the recovery of his body, family and friends have paid tribute to the man.
Rescue Operation and Recovery
The incident began when alarms were raised from the Gawelligeneg area of County Antrim. Emergency services were alerted to reports of a person who had fallen into the water after coming off a jet ski. We see understood the jet skier had set off from the Gawley’s Gate area on the shore of the lake.

A major rescue operation was coordinated by members of the Belfast Coastguard and involved several agencies, including the Lough Neagh Rescue crews and the Lough Neagh Coastguard Rescue Team. Aerial support was provided by the Rescue 116 helicopter from Bristow Helicopters, and lifeboats were also deployed to the scene.
Search and rescue teams confirmed that the body of a man was recovered from the water on Thursday afternoon. Following the recovery, the emergency operation was stood down.
Police Investigation
Police officials have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. The incident is being regarded as an accident.
