The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc Group) is managing a recovery process for the Habshan gas processing facility that is not expected to reach full capacity until 2027. The facility, one of the largest gas processing hubs in the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East and North Africa region, suffered damage that has hindered its operational output.

Operations at the Habshan complex in Abu Dhabi were suspended on 19 March 2026. The suspension followed an incident where the site was affected by falling debris from Iranian missiles that had been intercepted by the air defence systems of the United Arab Emirates.

Authorities in Abu Dhabi confirmed that the intercepted missiles had targeted both the Habshan gas facility and the Bab oil field. The Abu Dhabi Media Office reported that no injuries occurred as a result of the attacks.

The Habshan complex serves as a critical component of the region’s energy infrastructure, with a processing capacity of 6.1 billion cubic feet a day. The facility consists of 14 processing units and five trains designed to receive gas feedstock from various offshore and onshore fields located within Abu Dhabi.

In addition to the gas facility, the Bab oil field also sustained damage. The Bab field has been in production since 1960 and represents the first oil-producing asset in the emirate.

The disruption to the Bab field is particularly significant given the strategic objectives of the Adnoc Group. The company has set a target to reach an oil production capacity of 5 million barrels a day by 2027. To support this goal, Adnoc Onshore has been implementing infrastructure modification projects to enhance and maintain the production potential of the Bab field.

Reports indicate that the recovery of the gas plant will be a prolonged process. While the facility is undergoing repairs, it will not return to normal operational levels until 2027.
