The Global Champions League (GCL) has returned to Shanghai for its 2026 season, with the city hosting a series of high-stakes team and individual competitions starting May 1, 2026.
The event is part of the broader Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) of Shanghai, which runs from May 1 to May 3, 2026. As a five-star show jumping competition recognized by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), the tour represents one of the highest levels of equestrian sport held in mainland China.
GCL Competition Schedule
The GCL of Shanghai features a team-based format where riders compete for championship points. According to the official event schedule, the competition on May 1, 2026, consists of three primary segments:
- CSI5* 1.60m GCL Individual Competition – Grand Prix Qualifier, which began at 1:40 PM GMT+8.
- GCL of Shanghai – Round 1 Team Competition, scheduled for 4:35 PM GMT+8.
- GCL of Shanghai – Round 2 Team Competition, scheduled for 7:45 PM GMT+8.
The subsequent day, May 2, 2026, continues with further CSI5* events, including a 1.45m 2 Phases Special at 3:00 PM GMT+8 and a 1.50m Against The Clock With Jump Off.
Elite Field and Contenders
The 2026 field includes several of the world’s top-ranked riders. Scott Brash, the world number one and the defending LGCT Grand Prix of Shanghai winner, returns to the arena following a decisive performance in 2025.

Other notable contenders include Gilles Thomas, who won the event in 2024, as well as Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, Andreas Schou, and Nadja Peter Steiner. Together with Brash, these riders comprise the top five from the previous year’s LGCT Grand Prix of Shanghai.
The GCL format emphasizes speed, precision, and strategy, with teams battling across two intense rounds to secure their standing in the overall championship.
Live coverage of the GCL Round 2 and other events in Shanghai is available via DAZN TF and the official GCTV platform, providing viewers with expert analysis and real-time updates of the team showdowns.
