The demand for physical media continues to grow as the music industry navigates the third decade of the 21st century. This trend is highlighted by recent data from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which reported that vinyl sales surpassed the $1 billion mark in 2025.

This surge in interest sets the stage for the 18th annual Record Store Day, taking place on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The event features a massive inventory of limited-edition releases, with estimates of the available titles ranging from nearly 360 to over 500 exclusives.

Pop artist Bruno Mars serves as the ambassador for the 2026 event. To mark the occasion, Mars is releasing an exclusive collection titled Collaborations, which compiles his high-profile pairings with artists including Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Cardi B, and ROSÉ of Blackpink.

Major Live Releases and Archival Finds

Several legendary acts are utilizing the event to release expansive live recordings. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are releasing Live from Asbury Park 2024 via Legacy Recordings. The five-LP set captures a performance at the 2024 Sea.Hear.Now Festival in New Jersey, featuring a three-hour set that spans the artist’s career.

Pink Floyd is also represented with a standalone release of Live From the Los Angeles Sports Arena, April 26th, 1975 through Legacy Recordings. This version features a Steven Wilson remix of original recordings captured by Mike Millard and includes a full performance of The Dark Side of the Moon and early versions of tracks from the 1977 album Animals.

In the realm of jazz, John Coltrane fans have multiple options. Verve/Impulse! is releasing The Tiberi Tapes: A Preview Of The Mythic Recordings, which contains early 1960s performances and an alternate version of Giant Steps. Charly is releasing France 1965: The Complete Concerts John Coltrane Quartet, a four-LP set featuring the group’s only live performance of A Love Supreme.

Anniversary Editions and Expanded Reissues

Anniversary celebrations are a central theme for the 2026 event. John Frusciante’s third solo album, To Only Record Water for Ten Days, receives a 25th-anniversary expanded edition from Rhino. The release is pressed on blue and orange vinyl and includes four bonus tracks from the original sessions.
