American Airlines has announced the resumption of daily flights between Miami and Caracas, Venezuela, beginning April 30, 2026, marking the first regular commercial air service between the two cities since operations were suspended in 2019 due to U.S. Sanctions and Venezuelan aviation restrictions.

The airline will operate a single daily round-trip flight using Airbus A320 aircraft, departing Miami International Airport (MIA) at 8:00 a.m. Local time and arriving in Caracas at Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) at 1:30 p.m., with the return flight leaving Caracas at 2:30 p.m. And arriving in Miami at 6:00 p.m.

Ticket sales for the route opened on April 19, 2026, with fares starting at $1,174.33 for economy class, according to American Airlines’ official booking system. However, within 48 hours of sales launch, prices rose significantly due to high demand, with some fares exceeding $1,500 for travel in May and June 2026, as reported by Venezuelan business outlets including El Nacional and El Diario Venezuela.

The reinstatement of service follows a period of diplomatic engagement between the United States and Venezuela, including eased restrictions on certain commercial aviation activities under updated U.S. Treasury Department guidelines issued in early 2026. American Airlines confirmed it received the necessary authorizations from both the U.S. Department of Transportation and Venezuela’s National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC) to operate the route.

“We are pleased to restore this important connection between Miami and Caracas, which serves not only Venezuelan expatriates and families but also supports humanitarian travel, cultural exchange, and limited commercial activity,” said a spokesperson for American Airlines in a statement provided to News Directory 3. “Safety and compliance with all applicable regulations remain our top priorities.”

The Miami-Caracas route is one of the most historically significant air corridors in Latin America, previously carrying over 500,000 passengers annually before suspensions. Miami remains a key hub for Venezuelan migrants, with over 600,000 Venezuelans residing in South Florida as of 2025, according to estimates from the Migration Policy Institute.

American Airlines is the first major U.S. Carrier to resume scheduled flights to Venezuela since 2019, when several airlines, including JetBlue and Spirit, halted operations amid escalating U.S. Sanctions targeting Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, PdVSA, and restrictions on aircraft overflights and insurance coverage.

Industry analysts note that while demand is strong, particularly among the Venezuelan diaspora seeking to visit family, the long-term viability of the route may depend on broader economic stabilization in Venezuela and continued flexibility in U.S. Policy. For now, American Airlines has committed to operating the service through at least October 2026, with a review scheduled for September to assess performance and demand trends.

Travelers booking through American Airlines’ website or app can select the Miami-Caracas route under international flights, with baggage allowances and change policies consistent with the airline’s standard international fare rules. The airline advises passengers to verify entry requirements for Venezuela, including visa regulations and health protocols, which remain subject to change.
