The incident occurred around noon on Buyukdere Avenue in the Levent area of the Beşiktaş district. According to local reports, the building housing the consulate had been evacuated prior to the attack.
Details of the Attack
Three suspects arrived at the scene in a vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported that the individuals attempted to open fire before security forces returned fire. The attackers were dressed in tactical camouflage clothing, carried backpacks, and were armed with long-barreled weapons.
A gun battle ensued that lasted approximately 10 minutes. Verified footage from the scene showed security forces taking defensive positions behind vehicles and on a nearby verge as at least two dozen shots were fired in a short period.
Casualties and Police Response
Turkish authorities confirmed that one gunman was killed and two other suspects were neutralised
during the clash with armed police. Two police officers sustained injuries during the shooting.
A heavy police presence was quickly deployed to the area to secure the perimeter following the confrontation.
