Auckland Traffic Stop Uncovers Significant Drug Cache
A 19-year-old man is facing drug charges after police discovered a substantial amount of illicit substances and cash during a traffic stop in Millwater, Auckland, late Monday night. The discovery, which included methamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis, and LSD, was made after officers noticed a “suspicious-looking vehicle” while on patrol.
According to Senior Sergeant Carl Fowlie, Waitematā North Area Response Manager, the incident began around midnight when a police unit spotted the vehicle. “Once stopped, officers approached the vehicle and spotted a bong on the floor,” he said. This initial observation led to a more thorough search of the vehicle.
The search yielded 14.5 grams of methamphetamine, 14 grams of cocaine, 55 grams of cannabis, and 44 tabs of LSD. Officers also found a “tick book” – commonly used to record drug debts – and approximately $5400 in cash.
“This was a great find by our staff, who were simply out conducting proactive patrols during their shift,” Senior Sergeant Fowlie stated. “We are pleased to have been able to remove these items from circulation and the potential harm they could have caused in the community.”
The 19-year-old man taken into custody is scheduled to appear in the North Shore District Court today. He faces charges including possession for supply of cannabis, methamphetamine, and LSD, as well as possession of drug utensils.
The arrest follows a pattern of police activity aimed at disrupting the supply of illegal drugs in the Auckland region. The North Shore, Rodney & West Auckland Police Facebook page posted about the incident earlier today, highlighting the successful outcome of the traffic stop.
The discovery underscores the ongoing efforts of New Zealand Police to combat drug-related crime and protect communities from the harm associated with illicit substances. The proactive patrols conducted by officers in the Waitematā North area were instrumental in uncovering this significant cache of drugs and cash.
