Australia has announced a 24-player squad for its upcoming white-ball tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh, marking a significant transition in personnel as several established stars are absent from the roster. The selection includes the introduction of new talent to the senior national side for a series of nine white-ball matches scheduled across the subcontinent.
Among the new additions are teenage batting star Oliver Peake and rising allrounder Liam Scott, both of whom have received their first senior national call-ups. These players are part of a group of fresh faces the team intends to blood during the winter tours.
Joel Davies has been included in the T20 squad. This squad will participate in a three-match series against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to begin on June 17, 2026, and will serve as the conclusion of the team’s three-week tour of the subcontinent.
Veteran Pace Trio Rested for Red-Ball Preparation
The squad is notably missing three of Australia’s premier fast bowlers. ODI captain Pat Cummins, along with Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, will not feature in the matches in either Pakistan or Bangladesh.

The pace trio recently returned from respective injuries during the Indian Premier League. It is understood that they will now prioritize building their red-ball workloads to prepare for a two-Test home series against Bangladesh scheduled for August 2026.
T20 Squad Absences and Major League Cricket Commitments
The T20 squad specifically lacks several high-profile players due to conflicting commitments and selection decisions. Glenn Maxwell will not be available for the series against Bangladesh as he travels to the United States for the Major League Cricket campaign.
Maxwell is set to play for Washington Freedom during the American competition. He will be joined at the franchise by Steve Smith, who also missed selection for the T20 squad against Bangladesh. Smith previously earned a late call-up for the World Cup earlier in 2026.
Other notable allrounders missing from the new-look T20 group include Marcus Stoinis and Matt Short. Both players have commitments in the United States, with Stoinis playing for the Seattle Orcas and Short representing the San Francisco Unicorns.
Strategic Shift Following World Cup Exit
The restructuring of the white-ball squads comes as Australia seeks to move past an early exit from the World Cup. By integrating players like Peake, Scott, and Davies, the team is utilizing the Pakistan and Bangladesh tours to evaluate new talent in international conditions.
The tour will be split between different formats and locations, with the ODI tour of Pakistan overlapping with the playoffs of the Indian Premier League. The focus for the T20 contingent will remain on the three-match series in Bangladesh starting June 17, 2026.
The selection strategy highlights a clear division in the national team’s current priorities, balancing the immediate need for white-ball rejuvenation with the long-term preparation of the primary fast-bowling attack for the upcoming August Test series.
