The incident occurred on the night of April 4, 2026. According to statements provided to police, the couple was traveling in an 8-foot motorboat from Hope Town to Elbow Cay, a group of small islands located on the eastern end of the Bahamas.

Brian Hooker told authorities that Lynette Hooker, 55, fell overboard during the trip. He stated that Lynette had the keys to the boat, which caused the engine to shut off and left him unable to restart the vessel.

Attorney Terrel Butler, representing Brian Hooker, stated that her client has denied any wrongdoing. When contacted by the Associated Press via email on April 13, 2026, Butler did not immediately provide further comment on the release.
