On April 16, 2026, the Bellaria Cinema in Vienna-Neubau officially reopened its doors after being closed since 2019, marking the end of a seven-year hiatus and celebrating the venue’s 115th anniversary.

The cinema, located behind the Volkstheater, has undergone extensive renovation and modernization, featuring a technologically advanced screening hall with 116 newly installed seats as its centerpiece. Operators Sophie and Michael Stejskal emphasized that the reopening represents a commitment to cultural diversity and lively community exchange, particularly significant as it coincides with the cinema’s historic milestone year.

The updated venue includes a newly designed bar area managed by restaurateurs Moritz Baier and Daniel Botros of Café Liebling, intended to serve as an “attractive meeting point far beyond the film experience.” This addition aims to enhance the cinema’s role as a social hub within the Neubau district.

Programmatically, the Bellaria Cinema will return to the roots of the art-house tradition, offering a repertoire focused on high-quality current cinema offerings while continuing its longstanding practice of screening classic films. Audiences can expect to see works drawn from 100 years of film history, reinforcing the venue’s dedication to preserving cinematic heritage alongside contemporary arthouse presentations.
