The viral bald eagle pair Jackie and Shadow have expanded their family, welcoming two new eaglets into their Big Bear, California nest over the weekend of April 4 and April 5, 2026.

The hatching events were captured via 24/7 live cameras and livestreams operated by the nonprofit organization Friends of Big Bear Valley, allowing a global audience to witness the arrivals in real time.

Timeline of the Hatchings

The first chick began the hatching process on Saturday, April 4, 2026. According to reports from Friends of Big Bear Valley, the process took approximately 36 hours.

The first eaglet fully broke free from its shell at 9:33 p.m. PT on April 4, 2026.

The second chick emerged on the morning of Sunday, April 5, 2026. The nonprofit stated that the second eaglet was considered fully out of the shell at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Early Care and Development

As the second chick hatched on April 5, 2026, the first chick was observed receiving its first successful feeding.

Early Care and Development

Feeding newly hatched eaglets presents specific challenges because the chicks lack strong neck muscles. Due to this physical limitation, the nonprofit notes that the hatchlings are often referred to as bobbleheads.

The parents provide the eaglets with small bites of prey, such as fish. The parents provide saliva, which contains antibodies and electrolytes to support the health of the chicks during their early development.

Following the arrivals, Shadow was seen returning to the nest and settling in beside the two eaglets as the pair began their caretaking duties.

Digital Presence and Public Interest

Jackie and Shadow have gained viral status due to the transparency provided by the Friends of Big Bear Valley livestream. The live camera allows viewers to monitor the nest and the growth of the eaglets continuously.

The arrival of the new pair of eaglets on April 5, 2026, coincided with Easter Sunday, marking another milestone for the well-known eagle couple.
