Bristol City fans are calling for the permanent signing of goalkeeper Radek Vítek following a series of standout performances during his loan spell from Manchester United. The 22-year-old Czech goalkeeper has become a focal point of the Robins’ defense during the 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship campaign.
Vítek joined Bristol City on a season-long loan on July 28, 2025. While he was initially brought in to provide cover for Max O’Leary, he secured his place as the primary goalkeeper after O’Leary transferred to West Bromwich Albion in January 2026.
Impact and Key Performances
The goalkeeper made an immediate impression upon his arrival at Ashton Gate. He earned consecutive Man of the Match awards in his first two appearances, including a 4-1 victory over Sheffield United and a draw against Charlton Athletic on August 17, 2025.
During the match against Charlton Athletic, Vítek preserved a draw by clawing a ball off the line after a deflected cross led to an inadvertent own-goal attempt by George Tanner.
More recently, Vítek produced a viral sequence of saves during a match at Middlesbrough on March 14, 2026. In a single passage of play, he stopped a 20-yard drive from Aidan Morris, blocked a rebound from Hayden Hackney, and dove on the ball to prevent Adilson Malanda from scoring from close range.
Radek Vítek
The first save I couldn’t see much through bodies and the ball rebounded straight to the striker’s feet. Luckily for me, I didn’t give up. I stuck my feet there, somehow it ended up on the line, and I managed to keep it out.
Vítek attributed the success of these reactions to both training-ground work and a mental refusal to give up when facing an open net.
Career Progression and Loan History
The goalkeeper’s tenure at Bristol City is the latest step in a development path that has seen him move through several tiers of professional football:
- Academy and Early Years: Born in Vsetín, Czech Republic, Vítek played for the Sigma Olomouc academy before joining Manchester United in 2020.
- Manchester United: He featured 22 times for the Under-21 side between 2021 and 2023.
- Accrington Stanley: In January 2024, he joined the League Two side on loan, making 18 appearances (later cited as 19).
- FC Blau-Weiß Linz: During the previous campaign, he played in the Austrian Bundesliga, making 37 appearances in all competitions (cited as 26 in the league) and helping the club achieve a sixth-place finish, the highest in its history.
By the end of March 2026, Vítek had recorded 34 appearances in the Championship for Bristol City.
Future Outlook
The loan agreement includes a January recall option for Manchester United. As the 2025/26 season progresses, Vítek’s short-term future will be determined by the parent club in the coming weeks.
Technical Director Brian Tinnion stated upon Vítek’s arrival that the goalkeeper is extremely well regarded at Manchester United. The strong reception from the Bristol City fanbase has led to public calls for the club to secure his services permanently.
