Jin, a member of the global group BTS, has detailed his aspirations for the group’s future and his personal musical evolution in a cover-story interview with Rolling Stone. During the discussion held in February 2026 at Hybe’s headquarters in Seoul, Korea, the singer emphasized that his primary ambition is to tour with BTS.
Jin’s recent solo activities, including the release of solo EPs and performances, were designed as a means to keep the group’s fans, known as ARMY, entertained during the group’s hiatus. His commitment to the group’s collective success is further evidenced by his efforts to push for the extension of BTS’ touring schedule.
Musical Direction and Rock Influence
The singer has identified himself as the designated rocker within BTS and has expressed a long-standing desire to integrate rock-adjacent sounds into his solo discography. This influence is prominent in his solo work, where he has actively managed the production process to achieve a more intense sound.
Regarding his song Loser
, which featured a collaboration with Korean artist Choi Yena, Jin explained that he aimed to create a younger vibe for the track. He noted that during the early production stages, the song lacked the desired intensity, leading him to request adjustments such as amplifying the shouting and altering the overall sound.
Jin’s affinity for rock music is also reflected in his relationship with the band Coldplay. He has expressed a deep admiration for the group and has collaborated with them, including the solo single The Astronaut
, which was co-written by Coldplay and featured an appearance by Chris Martin in the music video.
This connection culminated in a surprise appearance during a Coldplay concert in Korea on April 19, 2025. During the event, Jin performed his own solo single as well as a collaborative song between Coldplay and BTS from 2002.
The Physical Demands of Idol Life
Now 35 years old in the traditional Korean age system (33 by international count), Jin discussed the challenges of maintaining the physical standards required of a K-pop idol. He acknowledged that the physical demands of performing are taxing and that certain dance movements have become more difficult over time.
To maintain a top-form performance for his audiences, Jin has implemented a rigorous practice routine. He admitted that he does not move as well as other members of BTS, which motivates him to arrive early to practice or stay late to catch up with the group’s choreography.
While it’s true that the same moves can feel a bit more difficult now, that’s just my burden to bear. For audiences, I need to display myself at top form. So I’ve got to work harder.
