Cesium Chloride as Cancer Treatment Linked to Deadly Heart Problems
The use of cesium chloride (CsCl) as an alternative cancer treatment carries significant health risks, including possibly fatal heart arrhythmias. A new analysis by seven honors students at UMC Utrecht, published in the journal cardiovascular Toxicology, found that approximately 25% of patients using cesium chloride die from these heart complications.
The study reveals that claims regarding the effectiveness of cesium chloride are based on flawed research from the 1980s. Researchers discovered people are turning to the readily available online salt as an alternative therapy.
“When we wondered why people were taking cesium, a salt you can easily buy online, we discovered it was ofen done as an alternative cancer treatment,” saeid Marcel van der Heyden, a supervisor at UMC Utrecht.
